Changing a cone air filter: fitment before appearance
Audi and Honda engine-bay photos show why size, support and filter type matter.
These Audi and Honda engine bays show two different ways to package a cone air filter. The shapes, mounting space and intake paths differ, so neither photograph is a universal fitting template. The Honda photograph shows a K&N-branded intake; it is not a TTRP product demonstration.
Measure the connection and the space
Before buying, measure the outside diameter of the pipe where the filter will clamp. Check the available filter length and width as well as clearance to the bonnet and nearby parts. Our sizing guide explains the dimensions to collect before selecting a universal filter.
Keep the complete intake in mind
Check the correct fitment, support, sensor connections and hose connections against the instructions for your vehicle and intake kit. A universal cone filter is a component, not confirmation that an entire intake conversion is suitable for your car.
Replace or service?
Identify the filter media before cleaning it. Paper, foam, oiled cotton and synthetic filters have different requirements. K&N publishes separate cleaning instructions by filter type; use the instructions for your exact filter and do not assume every cone filter needs oil.
